HAPPIES

We had a big meeting at work this week about lots of changes to come, and I'm excited! Sure, change is always a little scary and can be quite the headache, but in the long run I know this will be a really good thing.

I start my 24 day challenge tomorrow! It's my 2nd one, and I'm excited to kick some bootay at it! ;)

This week FLEW by! I can't believe it's already Friday.

I have ZERO plans this weekend, and I plan to keep it that way. I can't wait to sleep in and lounge on the couch. I don't want anything to do for once. I'm actually excited!

CRAPPIES

It was made obvious this week that my instructor isn't following the syllabus. It said we'd be studying Ch. 3 this week. So, I read Chapter 3 and did the handouts for it. Came to class and she started covering Chapter 2. I showed her the syllabus and said I was confused. And she waved it off, and said 'That doesn't matter'. Okay, well that's nice to know. Why write it if you're not going to follow it?

Binky needs a haircut so badly. His hair is so long that it's starting to tangle and he won't even let me brush it. :( I need to take him to the groomer ASAP!

Now it's your turn! Let us know your Happies & Crappies from the week by linking up with us!

A Photo An Hour - 1/28/14

Confession time: I am super nosy. I love knowing what people do for a living and the little minor things they do throughout the day. So, when Meg and Stephanie announced they'd be hosting A Photo An Hour link-up I was definitely in!

I hope you are too, because I totally want to creep in on your posts. :)

These pictures are from Tuesday, 1/28. I chose a day that I don't have class after work because it's hard to whip out my phone and snap pics while in class because I'm a good student, of course. :)

7:00 AM

Morning sunshine! Rockin' the bed head and a cross country t-shirt from junior high. Holla!

8:00 AM

Just getting to work and clocking in. And yes, we still use the old school 'time punch' system.

9:00 AM

Only been here an hour, and I'm already 3 patients deep. Let's keep up this steady rhythm and the day will fly by!

10:00 AM

Confirming the next day's patients. Again, old school. We do it ourselves, no automated system here.
{blurred to protect patient privacy, no breaking of the HIPAA laws here!}

11:00 AM

Some of my patients are difficult, but in different ways. This one was difficult in the sense that he's pushing 100 years old, is legally blind and basically deaf. It's tough getting him to do what I need him to do. Now though, he's ready to see the doctor.

12:00 PM

Lots of reports to scan and route into the correct patients' charts. It tends to stack up a lot. I had another stack this size that I had already scanned, but I ended up shredding it before I was able to take a picture.

1:00 PM

Cleaning up an exam room after an I&D was performed on a patient's cyst. I made it black and white so it wouldn't look SO gross for you. You're welcome. ;)

2:00 PM

My 2p patient cancelled. Score! Now I have time to eat my lunch. Sandwich, cheez-its and cucumber wedges. Yum!

3:00 PM

Making some phone calls. Talking to sick patients, calling out prescriptions to pharmacies, and giving lab results.

4:00 PM

We've got a big meeting at work the next morning, so I've volunteered to pick up donuts on the way into work. Gathering cash from co-workers.

5:00 PM

Quitting time! This means mail checkin' time, too. The post office is pretty much next door to my job, so it's quite convenient to go pick up my mail after work.

6:00 PM

Spending time with my two favorite boys. Binky always gets to excited when I come in the door. Then, it's like an extra surprise when Nate comes home. So sweet.

7:00 PM

Enjoying breakfast for dinner while watching Pretty Little Liars. AKA Nate's guilty pleasure. HA! He would kill me if he knew I told y'all that. But some Tuesdays, I think he's more excited than I am.

8:00 PM

Chemistry homework. :-/ Multi-tasking by listening to the State of the Union address in the background.

9:00 PM

Nightly shower time! It's still freakin' cold in Texas, so I'm wrapped up in the most comfy robe ever!

10:00 PM

I always read before I go to bed. Right now, I'm hooked on Gone Girl. During this hour, we also watch The Daily Show.

11:00 PM

Time to go to bed so I can wake up and do it all over again tomorrow! :)

What do your days typically look like?

Christmas in Montana

Let's NOT talk about how waaaaay overdue this post is. I swear it's been sitting in my drafts, and I even made the picture collages the week we got back. But, can I admit something? I have TONS of posts in my drafts right now. Ideas for posts anyway, not completed posts. And I have NO desire to complete them right now. Not sure what it is, but I am feeling a bit blah about my blog lately. I need to do something to change it, I'm thinking.

Anyway, onward! As you guys know, I spent the week of Christmas in Montana with Nate's family. It was wonderful and I was beyond happy to go. I love to travel and the chance to get a white Christmas made me giddy excited.

We left on a Sunday, and made it to the airport entirely too early. In my opinion anyway. I know you need to be there quite a bit of time before your flight, but Nate takes it to the extreme. We were through security and sitting at our gate 2.5 hours before the flight took off.

RIDICULOUS.

So, we had plenty of time to kill. obviously.

Nate was watching some football game that was on TV, so I wandered around the shops near our gate. I grabbed a smoothie and as I was checking out the tacky magnets you can buy, I swear to God I heard John Krasinski's voice. I almost gave myself whiplash. Unfortunately, it wasn't him. Just a man who sounded EXACTLY like him. I kinda wanted to stalk him.

I quickly got bored with the gift shops and headed back to the gate to annoy Nate, people watch and read my kindle.

We had LOTS of time for selfies. The last one was for Steph. ;)

Our flight that left Dallas boarded on time. We were ready to go. However, we sat on the runway for close to 45 minutes. Not ever really sure what the holdup was, but once we got to Denver to catch our connecting flight where we were to have 1 hr 15 min to board, we now had 20 min. Luckily, we weren't far from our gate and not a lot of time to wait. :)

The first pic is annoyed me. Sitting in an airplane waiting on it to take off. Oh, did I also mention I was sick? I got a nasty upper respiratory/sinus infection 2 days before we left. So needless to say, I was at the 'worst' of my sickness. Not fun.

We got to Montana and I was SO AMAZED at the snow I saw. Guys, I'm a Texas girl. Our 'snow days' involve hard, ugly, dirty ice. This stuff was pretty, white and powdery. Even though I was freezing my buns off I also wanted to stay outside and play in it.

Nate's not a big fan of selfies. We were excited to be in Montana, but very tired as it was 10:30. 11:30 our time. Oh also, I ended up having to check my baggage, and it took an HOUR at baggage claim when we were in Montana. Not fun.

The town we landed in is about an hour from Nate's parents' home. We ended up staying there that night because it was so late. Also, we were headed to Nate's hometown the next day in the opposite direction from where Nate's parents' live.

We woke up early, loaded the car up again and took the 2 hour drive to Nate's hometown. They still had TONS of snow on the ground. I wanna say Nate's grandpa said it was 8-9 inches. I was in heaven! I stomped around and made PLENTY of footprints in their front yard. :) Unfortunately, it was a very short visit, but as always it was so nice to see his family. We headed to Nate's parents' home that night, 3 hours away. Since I was sick, I fell asleep which made the ride home a quick one. ;)

The first morning we woke up there was one for the books. The middle picture is the view from the living room. I could definitely handle seeing that each morning. We grabbed coffee and just watched the mountains and the sun. It was gorgeous.

I obviously had to get plenty of cuddle time in with JJ. I was missing my Bink something fierce, but JJ definitely helped with that. She was my little buddy.

We headed to a friends' place on Christmas Eve for a party which was really fun. Lots of appetizers and LOTS of wine were had by all.

We did lots of sightseeing. The Madison River looked gorgeous with the snow and ice all around it.

The front yard. They didn't have hardly any snow on the ground because of where they are located, there's LOTS of wind. It was all blown away. :( But dang, you just can't beat that view, am I right??

Nate's mom always has the most gorgeous Christmas tree. I enjoy checking out all the fun ornaments each year. Also, we were totally spoiled gift wise. So blessed to have Nate's family treat me like I'm theirs.

Christmas gifts!! Lots of amazing things. My favorite? Probably the kitchen knives I was gifted. I have been needing a GOOD set and they've already gotten plenty of use since we've been home. We had to leave a lot in Montana and have it shipped to us though. That was OK with us, it was like Christmas all over again when we received the package. ;)

Nate's mom made prime rib for Christmas dinner. Holy yum. We stuffed ourselves and my tummy is actually growling now just seeing this picture. We spent the Nate lounging on the couch watching movies.

The next night, one of Nate's mom's friends came to town and we had a party out in the garage. Moscow mules, moonshine and wine were the drinks of choice that night. So fun and JJ just couldn't hang with us. ;)

The last full day we were there, we went out on Ennis Lake which was completely frozen over. They kept trying to get me to walk on it, but I was so nervous. Once I got out there though and realized how much ice there actually was, it was pretty fun to say I was 'walking on water'. :) I didn't want to leave. And again with the view!!!

Unfortunately it was time to leave, and a week away just didn't feel like enough. Montana waved bye to us with yet another gorgeous picture opportunity. The view!

We were exhausted, but happy and ready to get back to our little Bink! :)

I can't wait to go back. We'll be headed back this summer :)

HAPPIES

I started my class at school this week! It's a happy because it makes me feel good to be in school. It makes me feel that much closer to my goals.

I've been going into work earlier than normal this week (I know it doesn't sound like a happy) but it actually is because I'm going to see the difference on my next paycheck. ;)

I got my Erin Condren planner in!!! I feel like I can finally begin 2014, woot!

CRAPPIES

It's cold as shit here in Texas. We can't handle it. It's madness. At least it's not snowing. At least not in Dallas anyway.

It's just been an odd week. It feels like Friday should've already been a couple of days ago.

I had a horrible, crazy mix up with my financial aid and my schedule at school. It caused me lots of stress on Wednesday, which is a crappy. But I got it all figured out and it worked out. See Happy #1.

I had to think really hard for my happies this week. I am kinda negative Nancy this week. Boo! :(

How about you? What are your H&C from the week? Don't forget to link up with us!

Weekend Update in Vlog Form!

Well, Nate isn't here to make fun of me vlogging, so I took a shot at it.

Let me apologize in advance for:
How often I clear my throat
How I stare off into space because looking directly at the camera is awkward
My messy hair and lack of makeup
The dishwasher running in the background
This super awesome screenshot, thanks a lot YouTube!

How was your weekend?

Do you enjoy vlogs and if so, would you like to see more on my blog? :)

HAPPIES

Today, I am OFF WORK. I love having personal time to use as I please. The doctor I work for is out of the office anyway, so why not take a much needed personal day? Depending on what time you're reading this - I hope to be sleeping in and/or enjoying coffee on the couch. :)

I won a massage gift certificate in a giveaway around Christmas time, and today I am cashing in! I've got an appointment to fully relax today. I haven't had a professional massage in quite a long time, and I always feel like I could use one.

I went to Bath and Body Works yesterday with my mom. I had a gift card from Christmas, but I was hanging on to it until the Semi Annual Sale where lots of items are marked down 50% and 75%. I got close to $100 worth of items for $45. SCORE.

I have a pantry and fridge full of yummy ingredients. Nate and I FINALLY went grocery shopping this week, so I need to get our menu all planned out. Last night was Taco Thursday!

CRAPPIES

Picked up my monthly prescriptions yesterday. And, the price of them always makes me wince a bit. I know, it could be a lot worse, but I still don't like spending money sometimes.

My hair is getting pretty long, and it's driving me nuts. I have the urge to chop it all off, but I want to let it get a bit longer so I'll have enough to donate when I do cut it.

Nate is going out of town this weekend, and I'm going to miss him! Waaaah. #mushystatus ;)

Now it's your turn to tell us your Happies & Crappies from the week! Don't forget to link it up!

Books Read in 2013

Each year, I set a goal for myself on the number of books that I'll read on my GoodReads account. It's a really fun way to keep yourself accountable. It keeps track and tells you the percentage you're at and how many books you're ahead or behind.

I think in 2013 I set my goal at 30 books, and I only read 27. Oops. This year, I'm already ahead of my goal, so I hope to keep it that way.

So, here are the books that I read in 2013. Some of them I reviewed on the blog - others I didn't. I should probably get around to doing that! Check these out and maybe you'll find your new favorite book.

Even though it's Thursday, I'm plugging Book Club Friday for Heather! So go link up with her tomorrow :)

Garlic Herb Chicken Penne {Recipe}

As I promised yesterday, I am sharing a recipe I whipped up this weekend with you guys today. Nate and I seriously need to go for groceries. We don't have much in the house, so I needed to work with what I had. I had some chicken on hand, but I didn't want to just have chicken with rice on the side like normal. I wanted something different.

And so, Garlic Herb Chicken Penne was born. Super easy and so yummy. Keep reading to find out how to make this for your family tonight!

First, let's gather all of our necessary ingredients:

4 chicken breast tenderloins, cut into bite sized pieces
13.25 oz whole wheat penne
1/4 c olive oil
3 cloves of minced garlic
1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 c parmesan cheese

Okay, now we can get started!

Bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook your pasta, drain and return to pot.

Saute garlic and parsley in skillet for 1-2 minutes. Add chicken and season with red pepper and black pepper. Cook until browned and done.

Add chicken to pasta, toss with olive oil and parmesan cheese.

And walah! You just made yourself a delicious, healthy meal that is just as good leftover for lunch the next day!

Please feel free to pin the above image if you like.

Also, I'd love to hear from you if you do make this.. tell me how you liked it!

ENJOY!
