Happies & Crappies of the Week

Oh heyyy y'all. Showing my BFF Steph some love today & linking up for Happies & Crappies!

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

It's FRIDAY!!! I love the week after a long weekend. It goes by so quickly :)

I've got 3 giveaways going on this week on this blog. A group giveaway (lots of prizes!), a book worm giveaway, and a coffee lover giveaway. :)

I posted some clothing & accessories for sale on Instagram. I may post them here on the blog too, just to get the extra exposure. I really want someone to take these items off my hands!

I've rekindled some BFF love recently. My fave!

Nate and I are headed to a baby shower at a baseball game this weekend. Woot!

I recently caught up on all blog reading, well kinda. It felt good to see ZERO on my feed.

Nate is a total remote hog. Which means we usually watch boring stuff. In my opinion, anyway. ;)

That's about it. I had a good week! The less crappies, the better, eh?

Have a great weekend, dolls. See y'all Monday!

Seattle's Best Coffee! {GIVEAWAY}

Back in March at Blissdom, our Saturday morning breakfast was provided by Seattle's Best Coffee, and I remember it being deliciously amazing. The sausage, egg and cheese biscuit was heavenly and the iced coffee was like liquid gold that I wanted more and more of.

When I chatted with the girls at the booth, I learned that they were opening 10 new locations in the DFW metroplex in the next couple of months.

When I got home from Blissdom, I began scoping out the new building that was being built a few blocks down from my place. I wasn't sure what it was until the Seattle's Best logo went up on the building. I got all kinds of excited!

The sweet girls at Seattle's Best reached out to me to come meet them on opening day to try some of the products they offer. I didn't hesitate accepting the offer. ;)

When I arrived, I noticed how conveniently located it was. Right next to the road, just in and out. And, it's either drive-thru or walk up to the window. No inside seating which is OK by me since I'm usually on my way to work when I get coffee anyway.

When I drove thru and checked out the menu, I was pleased with how low the prices are. And the food ranges of all types since they're open 'til night time. You could enjoy a breakfast sandwich, a pretzel melt, or a variety of pies. All of which were incredibly yummy.

They also have many different drinks to choose from. When I went, it was close to 90 degrees, so I opted for a frozen drink. Pictured is the Caramel Pretzel Mocha. It was pure perfection.

After the first day, I continued to go each morning before work for a large vanilla iced coffee, which is less than $2! I think I may have a problem. ;)

Live in the DFW? Be sure and check out the new locations they opened to see if there's one near you! Don't live in Dallas? No worries, they have locations all over! Also, like them on Facebook where they're also posting fun facts, trivia and coupons.

Because the people at Seattle's Best and I love coffee so much, today we're offering $10 gift cards to 5 readers! That's right - 5 winners! This way you can try it for yourself to determine how much you love it.

A Spear of Summer Grass {Review + Giveaway!}

You all know I'm an avid reader. I especially love if I receive a book recommendation or a book from a friend. That way I don't have to make a decision on which book to read next. ;)

When Harlequin Books asked me to review Deanna Raybourn's latest book A Spear of Summer Grass, I took one look at the story line of the book and said, Yes Please!!

See for yourself..

Paris, 1923
The daughter of a scandalous mother, Delilah Drummond is already notorious, even amongst Paris society. But her latest scandal is big enough to make even her oft-married mother blanch. Delilah is exiled to Kenya and her favorite stepfather’s savannah manor house, until gossip subsides.

Amidst the wonders—and dangers—of Africa, Delilah awakes to a land out of all proportion: extremes of heat, darkness, beauty and joy that cut to her very heart. Only when this sacred place is profaned by bloodshed does Delilah discover what is truly worth fighting for—and what she can no longer live without.

If you blend glamour from The Great Gatsby and romance from “Out of Africa,” you are beginning to grasp the stunning new novel that is A Spear of Summer Grass.

The Great Gatsby is hands down one of my favorite novels, so after seeing the mentioning of it, I knew this would be one book I couldn't put down. And I was right.

A sixth-generation native Texan, New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn grew up in San Antonio, where she met her college sweetheart.  She married him on her graduation day and went on to teach high school English and history.  During summer vacation at the age of twenty-three, she wrote her first novel.  After three years as a teacher, Deanna left education to have a baby and pursue writing full-time. Fourteen years and many, many rejections after her first novel, she signed two three-book deals with MIRA Books.

Today, I have 2 copies of this book to giveaway. So yes, that means there will be 2 winners!

#TimeWithRod {review}

When I was asked to review Rod Stewart's latest album Time, I was a bit surprised at first. I thought he was low on the scenes for now, and I didn't know he had been working on new stuff.

I grew up listening to Rod Stewart. My mom was a fan, and my best friend's mom was a HUGE fan. I'm talking traveled the country to see him play. Loved that man. So by association, we were forced to be fans as well. It serves for great memories for us now that we're older. :)

  • Time is his first album of new material in almost 20 years (and his hairstyle hasn't changed one bit!)
  • Time, releasing May 7th, 2013, marks Stewart's long-awaited return to his songwriting roots and features 12 tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced.

The tracks included on the album are:
1. She Makes Me Happy
2. Can’t Stop Me Now
3. It’s Over
4. Brighton Beach
5. Beautiful Morning
6. Live The Life
7. Finest Woman
8. Time
9. Picture In A Frame
10. Sexual Religion
11. Make Love To Me Tonight
12. Pure Love

My favorite track is Can't Stop Me Now. Love it. It's so classic Rod. I love that he hasn't evolved much. In a good way though! He still is classic Rod Stewart that people grew up loving.

GO ahead and buy yourself a copy of the album. You can find it on iTunes or Amazon. Mine is in my car for my anytime listening pleasure.

#ToBeLoved {review}

I've loved Michael BublĂ© ever since a friend of mine introduced me to his version of "Home" way back in 2007.

When I received the opportunity to review his most recent album, To Be Loved, I was beyond excited. His voice just appeals to me.

And in typical Michael fashion, this one didn't disappoint either. I mean, check out these songs:

To Be Loved Track Listing:
1. "You Make Me Feel So Young"
2. "It's a Beautiful Day"
3. "To Love Somebody"
4. "Who's Lovin You"
5. "Something Stupid" (featuring Reese Witherspoon)
6. "Come Dance with Me"
7. "Close Your Eyes"
8. "After All" (featuring Bryan Adams)
9. "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" (with Naturally 7)
10. "To Be Loved"
11. "You've Got a Friend in Me"
12. "Nevertheless (I'm in Love with You)" (featuring The Puppini Sisters)
13. "I Got It Easy"
14. "Young at Heart"

I loved them all. The CD is constantly on repeat in my car. As hard as it was to choose a favorite, I'd have to say It's a Beautiful Day would be it.

"I want to take you on a wonderful journey about love—all different kinds of love," Michael says."The album swings big time: it rocks, it’s soulful, it’s happy, sometimes a little sad. It’s romantic, it’s yummy, and it’s heartfelt."

That's how this album makes me feel. Makes me feel soulful and full of love. It is an album that makes me happy each time I listen to it.

Feel free to go get it yourself on iTunes or Amazon. You won't regret it!

And I don't know about you, but I have a hard time resisting that cute face of his! ;)

Today's topic of the challengeTen things that make you really happy.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! Love this topic.. :)

  • I know, totally unoriginal. I expect to see this on many other lists. But honestly? When it's the first thing that pops into my head when I wake up in the morning (and first thing to pop into my head while I was making this list), it MUST be listed. My favorite time of the day is when I wake up and get to just sit for 5 minutes and enjoy my blissful coffee. It makes me happy, happy, happy ;)

  • This man does the dishes, makes the bed, cleans the bathroom, vacuums (which is my least favorite chore) and so much more. He strives to make me happy without even trying, if that makes any sense. He makes me laugh all day long. Waking up next to him, and coming home to give him a hello kiss has been purely wonderful these past couple of months.

My little sister

  • My little sister is one of the only people in my life that I trust with everything I have. The one who I know I can go to at any minute of the day. She's truly my soulmate. The one who knows everything and will drop anything to have my back. She makes me proud to be her big sister. Makes me so happy to know that I have a true friend for LIFE with her.

Being told I'm cheery/happy/perky

  • When my patients or co-workers, or even random complete strangers for that matter, tell me it makes them happy to see me because I'm always so chipper, smiley, energetic, etc. Well that just makes my day. It makes me feel like my job here is being done. I strive to make others feel good and give them a smile so that if they're having a bad day, maybe I can turn it around for them.

Old people

  • As you most know, I work with elderly patients. They (most of them) make me so happy. They mostly have such a sweet demeanor and will sit and tell you the most amazing stories from their past with you if you'll let them. It makes them feel good to have someone to chat with. I like to be that person for them. My grandparents are the sweetest people I know, and having them in my life and having phone calls catching up on life just makes me so happy. So much more happier than they know.

My best friend

  • My best friend. She's like my sister. She knows me better than I know myself. She gives the best advice. And even on weeks we don't talk a lot, I still know that she will always be my best friend forever. We've gone through too much together, good and bads, but all of those things? Hold a special place in my heart. We learned a lot about life together, and we're still standing.

  • Is there like a way I can have a baby to chill with all day and then give back to their parents? Oh? that's called babysitting, isn't it?! I am SO NOT READY for children right now. But, I sure do love babies. I love watching them learn, play, grow, say new words, find new things. A baby's innocence mesmerizes me.

  • The fact that I call my mom every single morning for a chat on my way into work, and by the time I've made it to work I have a text from my dad saying "I love you" makes my world go round. Each and every day. I couldn't imagine a life without my parents, and even thinking of it makes me sad. The relationship and closeness I share with these 2 amazing people who created my life sure makes me happy.

  • Mmm, wine. You guys knew I wasn't going to leave wine off the list. ;) No but seriously, a glass of wine after a hard day, when all you need is to just kick your feet up on the coffee table and watch crap TV sure can turn your day around. So basically wine = happiness. I mean, we're all in agreement, correct? ;)

  • This one is kind of a DUH to me, but laughing is my favorite. Hearing jokes, telling funny stories, laughing until I can feel ab muscles forming, those laughs. Those memories. That's what makes me happy.

  • This dog shows me unconditional love like I've never felt before. He gets excited with me, he comforts me when he knows I'm upset, and the happies he shows when I come home from work? Too damn adorable. And, make me feel loved and needed.

What things make you MOST happy?!

The Story of My Life

When I saw Jenni was doing a "blog every day in May" challenge, I was immediately intrigued, yet intimidated.

I wanted to challenge myself to do it, but at the same time, I tend to cave under pressure. Meeting a deadline, I guess you can say. I love most of the topics though, so I've decided to do a few of them on my own anyway. :)

The first day's topic is: the story of your life in 250 words or less, or one paragraph

Me at 3 years old, feeding pigeons at the zoo

I was born on a hot summer Texas day in July of 1987 to the greatest set of parents I could've ever been blessed with. However, I didn't have the perfect childhood. My dad was an alcoholic and my mom did the best she could. I still love them more than ever. I was lucky enough to find my true BFF at 9 years old. She's like another sister to me. I grew up in a teeny tiny town where my graduating class was only a mere 20 people. In high school, I was very outgoing and participated in every extra curricular activity I could get my hands into. After high school, I dabbled in college (and still continue to do so) and I've also had my fair share of heartbreaks (from those icky boys!). I met the love of my life, online, when I was 21 years old. Afterwards, I attended medical assisting school to get my registration and to get my foot in the door of the medical field. I've been working as an MA at an internal medicine practice for almost 3 years now. I enjoy my job, but I crave more. I live in Dallas, TX with my sweet boyfriend and our yorkie dog. I love coffee more than a normal person should, wine like an alcoholic, shopping like I actually make money or something, blogging and hanging out acting silly with my boyfriend, family and friends. I am a happy, determined, awkward, high strung kinda girl. Let's be friends, yeah?

BOOM! 250 words. Count 'em and weep. ;)

A Very Special Happy Birthday Wish

Today is my little sister's birthday. As this post is being published at 9:28 am, she was coming into this world exactly 24 years ago.

I can't remember a birthday of hers to go by that I didn't wish her a happy birthday at 9:28 am. It's just like my thing to do for her, and she always reminds me how much she looks forward to it when she wakes up.

So, happy birthday Casey!!! You'll always be my favorite. ;)

I love you more than I ever thought I'd love a little sister. As kids, we truly hated each other sometimes, didn't we? But now? You're my best friend, and I would be completely and 100% lost without you in my every day life.

I'm grateful for this day because you make life more fun. You know me, you get my jokes, you laugh at me when no one else does because you GET IT.

You truly are my soulmate, sees. I can't wait to see where this life takes you. Just know, that whatever you do or choose to do, will be OK by me. I support you, and I'm so proud of the woman you're becoming.

Love you long time, bebe seestah.

Why I Blog..

The topic of the link-up Neely is hosting is "Why I Started Blogging..." but my story is a bit boring. It goes a little something like this..

Girl bored out of mind at work. Mindlessly browsing the internet. Came across a random blog. Started reading. Wondered, "what is this blog business? I've never heard of such a thing!" Thought to herself, "well I could do this. I mean, I have like 10,000 journals of random thoughts I've written over the years as an angsty/happy-go-lucky/moody teen, why not publish my thoughts online for the whole world to read?!"

And so it began. My blog that is.

See what I mean? Boring introduction, right?

So, I decided to put a little spin on my post for today. I'm going to blog about....

"Why I Continue to Blog"

There's MANY reasons I've put my heart and soul into this little piece of the interwebs for almost 3 years, but I'm going to narrow it down to the top 3 for you guys today.

First and foremost, the most important reason, is the friendships I've made.

I know I say this a lot, and it seems totally cliche.. but I never, in a million years, imagined that my blog would bring me the friends that I have today. The majority of the people I talk to on a daily basis are people I never would've met had I not started this blog.

Girls I share my secrets with, I go to for advice, I have brunch with, I have a few glasses of wine with, I gossip with, I cry to. All of the things a good friendship should have - I have found through blogging. It amazes me every day.

And yes, I'm a bit sappy for even my own taste sometimes.

This is just a handful of girls I've been lucky enough to meet. But these girls? They're some of my best friends. My BFFs fo'lyfeeee, if you will. ;)

If you guys don't know Heather, Neely, Ashley, Meg, Whitney or Stephanie - then you're missing out.

Secondly, is the therapy I get from blogging.

Does that sound weird? I hope not, but whatever. If I could afford to lay out all my problems for a doctor each week while laying on a velvet couch, I so would. But since I can't, I blog. (and take meds, but that's neither here nor there..)

I know, I know.. I don't get "too personal" here all that often. But it still makes me feel sooo good when I am writing. Even if it's just fluff. Sitting down with a blank draft in front of me just does the soul good. Am I right?!

That's me - feeling all light and airy after writing a post to publish here at the blog.

My third, and last reason is totally superficial, but I don't sugar coat things around these parts, so I'm going to be honest with you guys - I love blogging for the benefits I sometimes reap.

By this I mean, giveaway winnings, product reviews, gift cards, etc. It's a definite perk, and I think it makes things even more fun for all of us. Don't lie, you love it too.

I mean, who doesn't love free stuff? Especially dresses, chocolate, hair dryers, jewelry, glasses, planners, wine, books or beer...

I rest my case.

Hooah and Hiccups
