Happies & Crappies #1

I love trying new link ups, especially when my BFF fo' lyfe Stephanie is one of the hosts. And the other host Sarah, though I haven't met in person I know is just as fab.

So here it is, the happies and crappies from my week. Enjoy! ;)

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Nate did my laundry for me when I came home from Blissdom. Major happy because he knows how much I hate doing laundry.
I'm still on my Blissdom high.
I have some of the best friends in the world who make me happy talking to them every day.
Mine and Nate's family will be together this weekend for Easter.
I made homemade guacamole for the first time last night. Holy deliciousness.

Although I'm still on Blissdom high, I'm also suffering from PBSD (post blissdom stress disorder). It's serious.
I've been so tired this week that I haven't been able to unpack and clean my apartment the way I need it to be.
Feeling like my apartment is too small when we have so much stuff here!

I think it's a good thing when the happies outweigh the crappies.
So, not much to complain about this way.

Yay! Be happy, my friends.

It's Fridayyyyyyyy!

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK..

..to live by the mantra "Ignorance is Bliss"

..to spend 2 hours on one blog post

..to text with friends so much during the day that my phone is dead by the time I get off work

..to die from cuteness overload every time my dog gets the hiccups

..to drink a coke zero when I don't have time to make coffee in the morning

..to still not be done unpacking from Blissdom

..to already be over "spring" and the awful allergies it brings

..to feel the need to clear all notifications on my phone before I go to bed

..to fight my sleep most nights because I don't want to go to bed "so early"

..to already be counting down to my birthday ;)

..to think of good ideas in the shower

..to sometimes dread when my chatty patients come in

..but then sometimes really be in the chatty mood to see them :)

..to complain about the cold, but know I'll be unhappy when it's 100+ degrees again

..to be having a great week! :)

What Happens at Blissdom, Stays at Blissdom

Except not really.. because I'm a blogger. And bloggers overshare. Obviously. :)

If you've been following my blog for a while, you know that I went to Blissdom last year. I blogged about the wisdom I learned and the fun times that were had by all.

There was no doubt in my mind that I would go again for the 2nd time. Actually, there was. I was THIS close to not attending this year for financial reasons. Then, I really thought about the amazing time I had last year and how I'd miss out on all the fun with my friends, got super sad, and I managed a way into making it work.

And, I'm SO beyond happy that I did.

As usual, Blissdom did not disappoint. In typical fashion, I will be recapping my experience with y'all.

You knew I had to get some OOTD pics thrown in the mix. ;)

Day 1: Maxi - Target//Cargidan - The Loft
Day 1/night: Dress - eShakti (review to come!)
Day 2: Top - Old Navy//Skirt - Old Navy//Necklace - giveaway win
Day 2/night: Dress - NY&Co
Day 3: Top - Kiki La'Rue//Leggings - Walmart//Necklace - NY&Co

These fabulous ladies right here? Meg and Whitney. They're who I spent rooming the whole entire weekend. And we had a blast. I feel like we were all good friends before the conference. But now? I can call these girls my best friends.

Day one was getting to the hotel to meet up with my sweet friends and get started on the fun stuff.

I brought Sprinkles cupcakes that spelled out Blissdom. They were adorable. And I know my cupcake lovin' friends were diggin' it. Lots of hanging with my roomies, Meg and Whitney. I also got a chance to hang with my sweet friend Heather. I just adore her.

Day 2 brought even more fun. I was able to meet Jon Acuff. I have a total crush on him. We just had lots of fun hanging out with the sponsor booths and other bloggers.

After the jam packed day of fun with friends and meeting and chatting with inspiring people, it was time to get ready for Girls' Night Out! There was a full dinner and open bar served. So generous, and so fabulous!

I had the time of my life dancing the night away with my BFFs. Chris Mann and Amber Riley performed for us. Afterwards, the Spazmatics came on and gave us the show of a life time.

Bloggers shown in the collage listed above are:

Day 3 was full of all sorts of fun! More inspiring keynote speakers, most sponsor perks, more memorable and truly unforgettable moments with friends.

Meeting Alli was the highlight of my trip. This woman is so inspiring to so many of us women as bloggers. She's the brains behind Blissdom and she does a damn good job at setting up a life changing experience for all who attend.

Bloggers shown in the collage listed above are:

After the end of all the closing keynotes, etc. We were off to get ready for Neely's birthday party and Girls' Night In.

All of Neely's best friends were in attendance for Blissdom, so why not celebrate her early? We had a blast with that. Tiaras, ice cream cake and all that good stuff. :)

Afterwards we headed to Girls' Night in where we met Ana Gasteyer and Jeremy Sisto and had a BLAST on stage singing karaoke. Perfect ending night to a perfect weekend.

Blissdom was everything that I expected. It left me feeling inspired and wanting to do more for myself and my blog.

It left me on a high from spending so many days together with my best friends.

This is the kind of fun we have when we're together. It's a blast. :)

To everyone who attended Blissdom, I hope you had just as an amazing of a time that I did.

If you didn't attend, I hope that you'll consider coming to one of the conferences in the future so you can see for yourself how wonderful it truly is.

Neely, Heather, Stephanie, Meg, Whitney, and Ashley:

Thank you for being you. I feel so blessed to be able to call the six of you my best friends. I loved you all before, but the conference helped bring us together that much closer. I know we'll be friends for a lifetime. Thanks for that. Love you girls!

While I'm still having the time of my life at Blissdom, I wanted to join in on Flashback Friday and share some pics of my fave people with y'all.

Enjoy! :)

L: Me & my BFF partying at some frat house. We must've been 18 or 19.

The time has come!!! It's Blissdom day! I'm so effing excited.

So while you're reading this, I'm either
A) rushing around doing last minute packing because I live to procrastinate
B) picking up goodies for my sweet roomies, MegWhitney and heading to the hotel
or C) already partying it up with some of the coolest bloggers around.

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK..

..to have a coke zero every now and then, even though my urologist would say otherwise

..to even it out by drinking a crap ton of cranberry juice on the same day

..to expect Nate to make a decision for me when I'm feeling indecisive (which is most days) and then get annoyed when he can't make one either ;)

..to feeling totally refreshed after a nap - why did I fight nap time as a kid?!

..to have made a necklace display with my jewelry, Pinterest style!

..to sometimes forget to count points on the weekend, oops!

..to be a lurker on FB, I rarely post, but you better believe I know what everyone is up to #creeper

..to buy more clothes even though I have a closet full with tags still on them

..to worry about my dog more than I worry about actual people sometimes

..to not understand the new mailbox app, but to have downloaded it anyway.. I need to know what the hype is all about!

..to hate going to the bank almost as much as I hate pumping gas

..to have finally figured out how to organize blogs into folders on Bloglovin'

..to be soooo lazy when it comes to going to the gym

..to sometimes just not even correct people when they call me by the wrong name. I'm talking to you patients!

..to be neglecting my kindle. I don't think I've read at all since Nate and I moved in together!

What's OK with you this week? Come link up and share with Neely and I!

A Girl Who Curled Her Hair With A CHI

For the longest time, I've heard about people curling their hair with their CHI flat iron. I didn't understand for the longest time. I thought we were supposed to use it to straighten our hair, not curl it.

So, I did some research and people claim that it holds your curl much longer and it's actually easier. I had tried and tried on my own without any success.

Sooo, one day when I met Meg last summer I was crying about how her hair is always beautiful and mine looks like a rat's nest most days.

Well, because Meg is a rockstar she did a video tutorial on how to curl your hair with a CHI. You've gotta check it out if you wanna learn. She's awesome and way better than anything you'll find on YouTube.

Well after I had practiced and given up, many times I finally decided that I was going to try again. I wanted to perfect this look by myself! I needed to do more with my hair than just put it in a bun every day.

So, when I was laying on my couch all week from kidney stones, I decided to use some of the down time to play around my hair for a bit.

I was very happy about the way my hair looked on the left side of my head. It was so pretty, and I wanted to leave it like that all day.

But wait, I guess I should go ahead and curl the other side too. Ya know, so I don't look too ridiculous.

After practicing a bit more, I text this pic to Meg to see what I was doing wrong. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the right side of my head curly! And I was a mad house.

After watching and re-watching (I'm kinda creepy) her video, I realized that I wasn't holding the flat iron right when I was on the other side of my head.

So, I switched that baby around, and was able to curl my whole head. I was SO happy. :) It's the little things people.

I then sent Meg the final product picture, and I got the Meg O. on the Go approval! ;)

Now, if I can do this, then ANYONE can. No seriously. I hate when people say that, but this is an instance in which is actually applies.

So, go get to watching her tutorial (which I linked above) and teach yourself to make your head look pretty like mine. :)

The Weekend in Which I Reverted Back to My Sorority Days For a Keg Stand

Last weekend was obviously St. Paddy's Day weekend. If you live in or near Dallas, you know there's a huge a parade and it's just a blast.

Since Nate and I moved in together, our apartment is a few blocks from the street the parade is on. It was so nice not having to drive and fight for a spot, beat traffic, etc. We just packed up our cooler full of beer, and started walking to find our spot. It was niiiice.

Me and my lucky lovah charm ;)

We ended up making friends with some people in the crowds. They had kegs full of green beer that they were just offering up to anyway.

The talked me into taking one, and I thought, "Oh I got this, I'm a kegger pro!" So I talked myself back into be 19 years old again and at a frat party. Ya know, typical weekend.

Then, I let two strangers hold me up to where I could get an entirely too mouth full of green beer.

It wasn't anything like I remembered it. It could be because I am indeed, not 19 anymore.

Oh well, at least it was fun.

Us girls just walked up and down Greenville Ave enjoying people watching and drinking entirely too much. After we grabbed a light lunch, we were headed to the Snoop Dogg concert.

I think I was most excited about this than anyone. And I don't even care! I just wanted to see DO-double-G! SNoop Doggggggggg!

Just me and my sister avoiding some couple who were basically dry humping on our legs. Ahh, Dallas. You're a classy place to be.

And I know you can't see my outfit, but I'm wearing a neon green workout tank (I think so anyway) from Target and my favorite skirt ever.

Also, I got extremely sunburnt. Nothing like the last time we went 2 years ago, but it's still pretty bad. I'm hurting today.

Hungover + Sunburnt = A fun ass time.

How was your weekend??

The One in Which I Tell You a Story About a Shellac Manicure

One of my guilty pleasures is getting my nails done.

I'm addicted to it. I do it almost every 2-3 weeks. It's my "me time". One of the only things I'll splurge on myself for and not feel bad about it.

I think it stems from the fact that I bit my nails to the quick until I was 20 years old. I never had nails that looked OK enough to get done, so now? Now that I have nails actually worth a sh*t - I want to make sure they look good. :)

That's my theory anyway.

Back to the story.

A few weeks ago, I decided to try a new nail place. It's super close to my apartment, and I pass by it on my way home from work. I was feeling rather lazy that day and didn't feel like taking a detour to my usual spot, so I stopped there instead.

I walked in, and everything looked good. The nail techs were friendly, they brought me a glass of water, and the chairs were comfy too.

Once the manicure started nearing the end, I noticed how much of the polish was all over my cuticles. It looked awful, but I waited for her to finish up and clean up.

She "finished" the manicure and held my hand up so I could approve.

Usually if it's a little imperfect, I won't say anything. But this? This looked awful... See exhibit A:

Do you see how there's polish all over my cuticles? And then, on my thumb, the polish doesn't even cover the whole nail!

I HATE being confrontational. But, I told her, "I'm sorry, but all of that extra on my cuticles? Will you please clean that up a little more?"

She gave me the stink eye, and started to scrub the hell outta my hands. Once she realized it wasn't coming off, she says, "Well, just wash your hands a lot and it'll come off tomorrow."

Not wanting to make a big deal and hoping that MAYBE she was right (I knew she wasn't) I said fine and went to pay.

I got to my car and out in the sun I realized just how badly it looked. I sat in my car for a few minutes and got mad thinking about how much money I'd just spent to have my nails look like they were painted by a monkey.

I marched back inside and said, "I hate to do this, but when I pay $40 for a manicure, I expect it to look like it."

A few of the nail techs started talking in their language (I think it's vietnamese?) and glaring at me. At this point, I didn't even feel bad. I was pissed about the way my nails looked and now I was even more mad because I felt like they were talking about me.

The manager came over and started fixing my nails while the first lady watched. Maybe she was new anyway?

Either way, all I know is that I finally got my money's worth. I ended up leaving happy with myself that I went in and got what I asked for.

Now that? Is what a shellac manicure should look like! And it did after I stood up for myself and got it fixed! :)

Have you ever been in an uncomfortable situation like this?

Weekend Happenins'

This weekend Nate went to Vegas for his best friends' bachelor party. To say I was a tad jealous would be an understatement. You see, I have never been to Vegas before and here I am. Staying in Dallas to do NOTHING. I didn't think it was fair. :)

So, Friday after work I was fully prepared to lounge on the couch in my sweats, cuddle with Bink and sleep in the MIDDLE of the bed that night. ;) It was kinda lame on my part how excited I got to have the bed to myself.

Saturday morning when I woke up and got ready, I had to take Binky over to my mom's since I was going out with my sister that night.

He thinks he's a cat sometimes in the car. I always put him in his bed to lay, but sometimes he finds his way to my chest and this is how he lays in the car. It's so adorable that I just let him do what he wants.

After he was handed off to my mom, I headed out to meet up with my sister and get ready. Once we were ready we were going to dinner at a friends' house. It started POURING rain. We decided maybe it wasn't that great of an idea to go out, so instead we stayed in and played beer pong. Because clearly, we're still 19 years old.

It actually ended up being a lot of fun once we had a few drinks and I started feeling OK that we weren't going out because I was upset about it at first.

I'm sure y'all have seen this picture on all forms of social media. We'd been drinking a little bit, and taking advantage of photo opps. This one ended up being one that we both LOVED.

Just hanging out with friends drying to stay dry from the rain!

Sunday morning I was all thrown off from the time change, but I was up and at 'em and ready to get home. I had lunch with my sister and was off to get my little one.

Since I drove all the way across Texas, driving back I got to see the Dallas skyline which I LOVE. It just makes me happy. I love living here. SO I thought I'd share. Because I'm obsessed with Instagram.

Makes driving all the way across the state not so bad when this is the view on the way back home.

I got to my mom's and Binky was SO excited to see me. Made me happy :)

There he is. All up in my face! Lovin' his mama :)

Then we got back home and got situated. I gave him a bath, solo. That's something I won't do again. Whew.

Then, I went to grab drinks and appetizers with 2 girlfriends. It was fun! Good food and good company. Can't beat it. Except I didn't take any pictures :(

By the time I got home, Nate was HOME!!! :) And he always bring a fun souvenir back.

He brought me a talking Bobble Head from Alan on the Hangover! :) it's so fun. We have it homed on top of our DVDs now.

Now, I'm blogging and guessing I should go get in bed and get ready for the week at work. Although the time change makes me hate this. This weekend went by way too quick.

How was your weekend?
