Most mornings I go to Starbucks for my coffee, but last week on my way to work I saw a sign out in front of the 7-Eleven that I pass each morning. It said that on Friday (last week) from 6am - 10am they were giving each customer a free large coffee. SOLD! I love free shit. ;)
So, Friday morning instead of going out of my way to Starbucks like I do each morning, I stopped at the 7-Eleven near work for my morning cup o' joe.
It was crazy busy, as expected, so I took my spot in line near the coffee center.
I finally had inched myself close enough to the cups and grabbed one, waiting for the person in front of me to finish pouring his cup.
I grabbed the pot, poured my coffee, and started doctoring it up. I like a little coffee with my cream and sugar. ;)
All of a sudden, the man standing across from me says, "Oh, so you're for Romney, huh?"
I said, "Umm, excuse me?" thinking this was a very random question from a perfect stranger.
He then nods and points towards my cup, and I see this:
I looked at my cup for a second, and said, "Umm, I just wanted some coffee."
The girl standing next to him said, "Well, I had a Romney cup & dumped that out to get an Obama cup."
To which I replied, "I didn't even notice the coffee cups had the candidates on them, I'm in a hurry to get to work just like the rest of you, and I just wanted some coffee!"
I found it kind of funny, but at the same time I can't help but think why we have to turn everything into some political. Can't even get a cup of coffee these days without being judged based on policital preferences. A bit ridiculous, in my honest opinion.
As you all know, I never get into politics here on my blog, and I want to keep it that way. I just thought this would be some good blog material. Nice and entertaining. :)
Have a great day!

I agree, you should be able to get a cup of coffee without broadcasting your political views!
I agree - its definitely ridiculous. But honestly all this American pre-election celebration is very very weird to me. Here in Austria its only with some posters and some TV discussions but nothing like your celebrations. its way to much for my taste!
Woah thas crazy! Yeah I dont do the whole politics on the blog or anywhere for that matter. People get all fired up and to be honest its just not worth my time.
And you know only a person voting for the other candidate would notice the cup you're holding. I really hate politics!!
I agree. That is pretty silly. But also, I hate when people are like "oh, you're for so and so?" What business is it of anyone's? People judge others based on who they are voting for. I see it all the time. Like, "if you vote for so and so you must be...." It's like... you don't know me. I used to be into politics a little, but now I'm not. It gets more ridiculous by the year.
I heard about this on NPR... how 7-11 started this unofficial poll with their coffee cups. Apparently they have just regular white cups if you don't want to participate. LOL. But I'm with you - I don't understand how everything has to become a political argument!
Funny lil story ;) I do hate how some strangers/coworkers/people you dont know well will be like "Oh you're a right-winger?" or some other similar comment. None of their business!!! ;)
That is kind of funny but really ridiculous!!
oh good god. It is far too early to be dealing with people and politics when all you want is your dang coffee.
Eww! I'd be pissed quite frankly! I don't do politics at all. It's even got bad in my hometown with the Sherriff election.
That's so annoying. I get so sick of this political crap - it's so childish. I'd like a mature leader for this country, not one who plays popularity games. Can we have one of those please?
That is HILARIOUS! Glad you were such a good sport about it :)
Gosh I hate election year. That is funny though. Darn politicians gotta shove themselves down our throats one way or another. ;)
Dang can't even get a cup of coffee without some political implication! So ridiculous! But definitely blog-worthy! I hope at least the coffee was good!
Some things just get taken too far. I hate stuff like this, because they are literally saying "I'm hoping you're stupid enough to vote for me, since you see my name on this coffee cup! Hope you don't actually do any research into how I plan to run your country!"
Lame.
It's just wrong to even introduce politics into the day before coffee. Those sneaky 7-11 people.
Omg thank you! Seriously, I'm getting sick of it, and its only going to get worse the closer it gets to November.
Ha, that is funny AND ridiculous all in one. Who knew what you were walking into...all for a free cup of coffee! ;)
Omg I'm so tired of politics!! Now they're on coffee cups? Crazy!!
This is funny and ridiculous all at the same time :-/
I'm kind of opposite of most - but I love politics! BUT my passion for it aside, I ran by 7-Eleven one morning for coffee because I was desperate! I saw the cups and was FURIOUS!! First of all, they have NOTHING to do with the actual campaigns and seriously doubting that they are contributing financially to the campaigns. The fact of the matter is, there are people out there that would choose to get their coffee from 7-Eleven for a chance to express their views on the campaign. They're profiting off of someone else's name. Just really bugs me. I grabbed my Romney cup and grumbled about the experience all day. : )
It's not that I hate talking about politics (even if it's with someone that disagrees with me), I just hate talking about politics with people that don't know what they're talking about and make statements based on partial facts or statistics they've overheard (and didn't even bother to research the candidates themselves).
I'm ready for all that type of ish to be OFF of facebook.
OK, sorry - rant over haha.
This post made me laugh for some reason. I would've been the same way as you "uhhhh no I just want my free coffee so BACK OFF, YA CRAZIES!"
Suckering you into this whole political mess with coffee?? That's just not cool.
I think that's pretty funny! I'd have been the same way - I'm so not political!
How odd that they had the cups like that! I mean for real, people just want coffee, not a debate there!
Oh good lord, we can't even get a cup of coffee without it being political! Good grief!
