Meet the Baby

As some of you may know, if you follow me on Twitter, I got a dog the weekend before last!

Nate and I were out running errands on a Saturday, and we decided to swing by Petco. No, we don't have any pets, but this is normal for us. We love to browse around pet stores and see the babies that are up for sale/adoption.

The humane society was set up with around 30 dogs for adoption. We were loving all of them, and then.. I saw a yorkie. Nate and I were ooh-ing and aww-ing over how cute he was! All of a sudden, this lady just placed him in my arms.

It was over then!

I looked at Nate, and he knew I was wanting him. He said, "Babe you really need to think about this before you jump into it." So, I gave the dog back, and we walked around Petco and priced food and saw how much I would be spending with getting food bowls, bedding, shampoo, etc.

We also called his mom, who has a yorkie of her own that I absolutely adore. Not only do I love yorkies, but they are hypoallergenic dogs, which was a big factor because Nate and I are both allergic to dog dander.

After debating on whether or not I was ready for about an hour, I finally said I was going to get him!

And so, Nate and I have a dog! :)

Meet Binky

Is he not the sweetest thing you've ever seen in your life? I am so in love with this little boy! :)

He's still taking some time getting used to Nate and I, but the vet said that's normal. He's already 2.5 years old, so he's in a whole new environment now. He's still learning to trust us.

Luckily, Nate has been amazing. He's been coming by every afternoon before he goes to work to let him out to go potty and put him in the baby gated kitchen, so that way he's not in the crate ALL day long.

He checked out good at the vet. He's all up to date on his shots, but she did say he needs to put on just a little bit more weight. He's right under 3 pounds. Also, he needs to have some dental work done. All of his adult teeth have came in, but not all of his baby teeth fell out. :(

He's been sleeping a whole lot, but I guess that's better than him running around the house like a terrorist chewing up everything I own. Right?

I won't lie, the first couple of nights I got him, I thought to myself, "What in the world did I get myself into?!" But now? I'm used to the change. It's definitely a change, but it's a good one. He's so sweet, and I actually look forward to coming home from work to see his cute little face!

Binky says, "Nice to meet you blog world!" ;)

Do you have a dog? Are you a yorkie fan too?

Congrats! I have a dog of my own, but I got her from a pet store when she was a baby so she has always known me as "mom". Major props to you for adoption. Dogs are a pain in the butt, but so worth it and rewarding.

Have a great day!

Awww. I love Binky. And I have to say, I'm so glad you got a rescue. There are so many furbabies deserving of a good home. :)

I only have cats (because they're much more suited to my lifestyle), but I love dogs too. My best friend has a Yorkie, BrookeLynn, so I'm quite familiar with them.

Some dogs are really sleepy right after they get adopted - its a big change and can be exhausting. Our second dog would fall asleep whenever you pet him for the first day or so. Now he's a bundle of energy. Especially with small dogs, they sometimes have issues losing all their baby teeth, our little guy had to have a few pulled when he was neutered; I imagine if this guy was in a shelter, he probably didn't have that done for him, but it shouldn't be much of a problem having them pulled now. How exciting for you! congrats!

Oh my word, he's so sweet! I'm so glad things are going well with him. We adopted Glenda when she was 2 and we had a smooth transition. Hope it continues to go smoothly for you!

Awwwww! I am loving Binky! What a little doll!

So sweet! I'm happy to see that you adopted, especially because you wanted a certain breed. Lots of people go right to breeders and spend thousands of dollars when sweeties like Binky need homes too!
When we first adopted my cat she was skinny, skinny! She definitely needed to gain weight, but she did, once she was comfortable. The shelter is terrifying for them, so I'm sure he'll get more and more comfortable and gain weight and be fat and happy in no time with your love!
Did you pick his name or did he come with it?

I'm jealous. I love my girls, but I've wanted a Yorkie for forever. Binky is absolutely adorable. So glad you're enjoying the puppy love.

Hello Amber, I am a new follower of your blog! Your puppy is adorable. My husband is also allergic to dog dander, and we have a jack russell terrier/bichon frise mix. He takes Singulair and it doesn't bother him at all. Your pup will get used to his new home eventually and quit whining at night. We had to try several different things to finally get Owen in a good routine. You will love having the constant companion!
