Don't do these things at a Doctor's Office

Working as a medical assistant at a doctor's office is not as easy as it sounds like it may be. Also, my time there has shown me what patients should and should NOT do to the doctors and nurses. What is and isn't acceptable behavior. So, I have compiled a list for my readers, ya know, just in case you were curious. ;)
  • If you are scheduled for an EKG, or even remotely THINK that you may be getting an EKG at your appointment, please for the love of God, do not slather a whole entire bottle of lotion all over your body. Not only is it going to be impossible for me to run the test because the electrodes aren't going to stick to you, but I'm going to have to remove the lotion with alcohol anyway.
  • When I ask you to leave me a urine sample, and I tell you that I just need a little bit, and I even show you on the cup what I mean by a "little bit" do not leave so much that the cup is damn near overflowing. Not only is it disgusting, but I'm just going to end up pouring it out anyway.
  • Do not try to carry on a conversation with me while I am trying to take your blood pressure. First of all, I have my stethoscope in my ears which makes it hard for me to hear you. Secondly, your blood pressure may be hard to hear which will result in me having to try for a second reading.
  • Do not wince and act like you're going to cry when I take your blood pressure. I did NOT put the cuff on that tight. I'm not a mean nurse, and I'm not hurting you intentionally. I'm doing my job, and this is only going to take 30 seconds. Plus, you're an adult, you know what to expect when you come into to see the doctor.
  • Once you get to check out, don't ask our receptionist who's checking you out for me to come over because you have more questions. I'm already on to another patient by now. So, now I'm being paged. When I come over, you tell me you need a new prescription or you have some ailment. When I ask if you mentioned this during your visit and you tell me no, it makes me want to hit you because you're taking up my time away from another patient, and the doctor's time as well. MENTION THESE THINGS WHEN IT'S YOUR TIME!!!
  • When you need a prescription refilled and we ask you to please have the pharmacy fax over a request, and we will fill them at the end of the day (protocol - once we are finished seeing patients for the day), that doesn't mean call 17 more times and ask if we have received the fax or ask if the doctor is going to authorize it. Yes, we received it, and yes it will get done, when we are done seeing patients.
  • Just because I don't return your call within 5 minutes doesn't mean you should come up to the office and demand to see me. I am busy. I have patients to see, and a doctor who asks me to do 20,000 other things that aren't normally on my schedule for the day.
  • If you are sick, give us a call. We will probably work you in, or if the doctor thinks it is an emergency he will tell you to go to the ER or call in orders for you to be admitted to the hospital. Do NOT just show up to our office, and expect to be worked in immediately. Sure, we'll work you in, but you will be waiting for a while.
  • When I call you back from the waiting room, and I politely ask "How are you doing today?" Do not respond with, "Why would you ask me something stupid like that at a doctor's office? I wouldn't be here if I was doing okay." You are now on my shit list, and I will never be sweet to you again, BITCH.

That's all I got for now, but I promise you, when I get off work on Monday, I'm sure I'll have more. ;) Hahaha!

On a side note, I have great bedside manner, I hide the fact that I'm incredibly irritated with my patients from them very well. It's just annoying that they think that they are the ONLY patient in the office. Do you guys get what I'm saying? Ugh, I just had to rant!

Now, off to dinner with the BF's parents! :)

TGIF - Fill in the Blank Friday!

It's FRIDAY! I hope you've all had a fabulous week, and hope you have an even better weekend! I know that I'm REALLY looking forward to sleeping in this weekend. I always feel like I never get enough sleep during the week. What's up with that?!

Today, I'm playing Fill in the Blank Friday with Lauren at
The Little Things We Do so head on over, link up and play along with me! :)

1. If my house was on fire and I could only grab 3 things I would grab my
laptop, my purse (because it carries all of the major essentials, of course) and my picture albums.

2. A smell I really like is J'Adore by Christian Dior is my absolute FAVE perfume. I really like the BF's cologne too. He wears the Lacoste in the green bottle, I have NO idea what it's called, HA! I also love tons of other scents, but we'd be here all day if I continued to list them, so I'll stop while I'm ahead. ;)

3. Something you might not know about me is that when I was 10 years old I entered a contest to be the next "Spice Girl" (it was when Ginger Spice quit) and I won the contest and $100. My picture was in a magazine and everything. My name was going to be American Spice. Of course, nothing every came of it, I think it was just a little thing to get little girls hope up, but I still had this dream of becoming famous one day!

4. Some of my favorite websites to putter about on are blogger (of course), facebook (disgustingly addicting), youtube and I'm learning to "putter" on twitter.

5. This weekend I will be going out to dinner for the BF's step-dad's birthday, going to a friend's baby shower, and going to see a friend's new apartment. Wait, aren't weekends supposed to be relaxing?! ;) Kidding, I love the busy-ness of it all! I get bored too easy

6. Nothing makes me happier than a sincere compliment from someone I care about.

7. A bad habit I have is
cracking my knuckles, putting a gallon of salt on everything I eat, and being overly OCD about everything (even things that aren't mine). :-/

What are you guys doing this weekend?! :)

What I'm Lovin' Wednesday!

Not only is it "hump day" (am I the only one who thinks that sounds just a LITTLE BIT dirty?) it's time to play What I'm Lovin' Wednesday with the lovely Jamie over at
This Kind of Love.

I'm LOVING that I woke up early enough today to make a pit stop by Starbucks this morning on my way to work for a White Chocolate Mocha. Mmmm, just thinking about it makes me want to set my alarm 15 minutes earlier for tomorrow to do it all over again. :)

I'm LOVING that it's a possibility that my mama MIGHT be moving back to Texas this year! :) (She lives in Kentucky right now), which makes me sad for our family in KY, but she'll be back with us. Is that selfish of me?!

I'm LOVING the song "Marry Me" by Train. The first time I heard it I just stopped and literally took in every word. This is big for me. My mind doesn't stop and do this. It's hard for me to actually pay attention to lyrics, but this song makes me cry like a little baby, and the video? Oh God, I won't even go into what it does to me!

"Promise me you'll always be, Happy by my side, I promise to sing to you, When all the music dies"

I'm LOVING that I get the keys to my new apartment a WEEK from tomorrow, ahhhh! I'm so giddy with excitement. I've got so many cute decorations for the new place that I'd love to already share with you guys, but as I've been buying them, I've been putting them in my trunk so that I don't have to reload anything.

I'm LOVING that my very best friend in the whole entire world has moved to Dallas! Yes, we are back in action and can't be stopped! ;) She has a 5 year old daughter who melts my heart! I love her so much, and the way she says my name is even cuter. Every time I come over she runs to the door to give me a hug and says, "AMER!!!" yep, she totally leaves out the B, it's precious!

Me & silly little K-bear

What do you guys just LOVE this week

Ten on Tuesday!

This is my first time to play Ten on Tuesday with Roots & Rings.

You guys know I'm obsessed with these question thingys, so if you wanna play, go head on over to her blog, and link up! :)
{one} Do you decorate for Valentine’s day?I have a sign for my door, but that's about it. I don't go all out like I do for Christmas or anything.

{two} Does your desktop have a picture or computer graphic? Is it organized?
At work, it's a pic of the BF & I at a wedding a year and a half ago, and yes of course it's organized, do you know me? And my laptop at home, it's a group pic of some friends this past NYE, and DUH organized, yes!
{three} Do you use a paper planner, electric planner or no planner at all?Kinda a mix of all of the above. Doesn't make much sense I know. I write stuff on my calendar, I put it in my calendar in my phone, and sometimes I just remember it on my own because I have a kick ass memory like that. ;)

{four} Do you change purses or bags often or stick with a good thing?
I carry the same one until I find one that I am in love more than the one that I am already carrying.
{five} What’s your favorite YouTube Video?
Currently this one, I just love this kid. He cracks me up, and it's too cool that 50 cent comes and raps with him. The BF and I will seriously search this kid and watch his vids all night some weekends. :)
{six} Do you use Turbo Tax or a real person to pay your taxes?I use TaxAct or whatever is free online. I figure since I know how to do my own, why pay someone? But apparently H&R Block isn't charging independents who were full-time students in 2010 this year, so I'm gonna go check it out, but if they even try to charge me a penny, I'm packing up my documents and saying, "Peace bitches!"
{seven} How many states have you set foot (or tire) in? Which ones?I can't even count. There's PLENTY! Mainly on the east coast, and in the upper/central area. Not so much the west coast. I don't have the time to count right now, but I've done plenty of traveling, especially as a child.
{eight} How many countries have you been in? Which ones?Just the good ol' US of A. How sad! I even have my passport, which I've yet to use. How pathetic!

{nine} How many pillows are in your house? (Sleeping or decorative)
On my bed, there are 5. I only use 2 to sleep. Decorative, I'd say ummm, 4ish.
{ten} How cold is too cold for flip flops?Despite what others think or say, it's never too cold for flip flops. ;) I seriously think my toes have become numb or immune to cold weather because if I'm not at work, I am in flip flops. People always say, "Aren't your feet cold?" Nope, they sure aren't. :)

Weekend & V-day BLOG SWAP! :)

Hey guys!! I hope you've all had a fabulous weekend! I know I did. Friday night, we did our usual outing to Buffalo Wild Wings and as usual "Namber" kicked major ass at trivia.

My crackberry doesn't focus very well, excuse the blurriness, thanks!

Saturday, the BF & I stayed in bed for entirely too long, when we finally decided to get up, we went to Olive Garden for lunch. Good idea because I can always appreciate Italian, but Italian always causes me to overeat, and then I come home and lay on the couch until my food-baby dies down. It's disgusting.

Later, I wanted to put on some comfy sweats that I had gotten for Christmas that I have yet to wear because they are too long for me, (this is nothing new considering I'm JUST under the 5 foot mark). Well, Robin's GF decided to help me with making them size petite just for me. :) And here's the after product -

By the way, I'm not yawning.. I'm trying to look "excited" because I can now wear my pants and you can see my feet, and I realize it's a major fail, but whatever. You get the idea.

And today, I'm up entirely too early, but the BF has an early morning shift, but that's okay because I'm off to get to work on his Valentine's day present. I can't wait to share with you guys what it is!!! I'm so excited about it. ;)

For now, I'd like present to you....

I, for one, may be a little overly excited about this. I've never done a blog swap! I know, where have I been?! Give me a break, I've only been blogging since June, yo!

Anyway, for more info, please go see Neely at
A Complete Waste of Makeup

I hope everyone will play. I think the more that will join, the more fun it will be! :) So go, go now and send your email!! That's an order! ;)

TGIF lovelies!

I hope you've all had a great day, and if you're anything like me, you're super grateful to be off of work! I'm planning on having a very relaxing weekend! :) What are your plans?

I'm playing Five Question Friday today. If you wanna play, go on over and link up!

{one} Where did you meet your spouse and did you instantly know it was love?
Well, he's not my spouse, he's just my BF. We met online. It's kinda a funny story, and we'll save that for another post. But in person, we met at a pub, and I just knew it was different. I had never had such great conversation with another guy in my life! He was going to be someone special from then on. :)

Our 1st picture together in October 2008

{two} What is your favorite room in your house?
Right now, I live with my dad, so it's my bedroom because everyone else in the house smokes and I forbid them to do it in my room. :) Not because I'm anal & controlling, okay maybe I am. No, seriously it bothers my allergies, and I think it's the worst smell in the world. When I have my own place, it's normally the living room. Because it's where everyone (when I have company over) gathers and hangs out. :)

{three} Can you wiggle your ears?
I sure can!

{four} What is your evening ritual?
Oh, it takes me forever to get ready for bed! I take my night-time medicine, slather my legs with lotion, brush my teeth, take off my make-up, turn my fan on and set my alarm. That's just the normal stuff.
Now, for the OCD stuff - (don't judge me)

I make sure the back & front porch lights are off for about the 3rd time. I make sure back & front doors are locked numerous times. I make sure the coffee pot, hair dryer and straightner is unplugged. I also make sure that the oven is off and the stove knobs are turned to off. I make sure no lights are left on, and that the heat isn't set too high. I check to make sure my alarm it set on high volume so that I'll be able to hear it and then I make sure numerous times that it's set for AM instead of PM.

It's EFFING exhausting. By this time, I'm definitely ready for bed, HA!

{five} How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
To function? Only like 5. But I won't be my normal cheery, happy and talkative self. I'll be very quiet, slightly bitchy and will keep to myself most of the day.
To survive? Close to 10. I'm like a teenager still, HA!

Scary, yet entertaining, eyeball experience!

This morning, I had my 1st scary experience with my contacts. I've only been wearing contacts for 5 years, (which is a good while, but not as long as most people have been wearing them).

Now, first let me start out and say that the day before yesterday, I was wearing them, as usual and the left one was kinda irritating my eye and I thought I had something in it like a piece of dirt or an eyelash, so I kept moving it around thinking I could get it out, and to no avail. All damn day, it was irritating the hell outta me.

At the end of the day, when I was taking them out I realized that the contact was ripped, so by me moving it around my eyeball ALL day long, I was actually doing more damage.

So, the next day, (are you guys keeping up here?) I wasn't even able to put in my contacts, my eyes were closing when I was trying, like they were yelling at me, "Hell no bitch, we aren't letting you do that to us again!"
So I had to wear my glasses to work, which I HATE wearing. I only wear them when my eyes hurt, I'm sick or I'm out of contacts. People always compliment on them and tell me how "distinguished" I look and all that mess, but whatever. I hate it. I think I look like a big, stupid dork.

Today, I think, "Okay I gave my eyes a day off, that's long enough, they can suck it up, today they are wearing a new pair of contacts."
I get out a new pair, and I always put in the right one in first (because everyone knows that the right side is first no matter what it is, it's an OCD thing ;)) and it's irritating me, ugh. So I take it out, wash it with some solution and try again.

Uh oh! I couldn't get it out of my eyeball. I could feel it; I could tell something was there, but I couldn't get it out.

I may or may not have turned into a bit of a psycho drama queen at this point. I almost started crying, but realized that would've made it way worse, so I had to force myself to calm down, which is a tough feat for me because I'm an uppity person as it is.

So, here I am, I had just stepped outta the shower, sitting naked on the sink in the bathroom, freaking the hell out. I was devising my plan to call into work because I am going to have to make an emergency appointment to go in to see an optometrist.

Once I'm calmed down enough, I decide to lift my eyelid, and THERE IT IS! My contact has gone up above my actual eyeball. I had to literally fish my contact out of my eye because it was starting to go behind my eyeball.

It was terrifying.

I'm SUCH a paranoid person, I've had a mirror out all day long making sure that my contacts are still intact.

I don't know about you, but to me, this is a sign that I'm a candidate for lasik, am I right?!

What I'm Lovin' Wednesday!

Today is my first time to play! If you want to play too, head on over to see Jamie at This Kind of Love and LINK UP! :)

I'M LOVING that I swallowed my fears and took the Ambien that was prescribed to me last night, and was up early enough this morning to actually do this blog! I'm also enjoying my coffee BEFORE work instead of rushing around to make it while making a mess on the kitchen counter and trying to drink it on the way to work before it gets too cold. ;)

I'M LOVING that even though when I went into Victoria's Secret this past week and was sized, I went up a cup size *rolls eyes* - they had their semi-annual sale still going on, and I got 6 bras & 5 pairs of undies for under $100! That's right ladies. Better hit up your nearest VS before it's too late. ;)

I'M LOVING that in 2 weeks I'll be totally independent again. As in on my own, in my own place. I think I forgot to mention that. Sorry guys! I got my own apartment again! You guys know how independent I am, and living with my dad for the past 6 months, (as much as I love & adore the man) has been driving me stir crazy! The apartment is fabulous, and I'll do pics before I move anything in, and pics after I move all my stuff in and decorate it.

Last but not least, I'M LOVING -

I've had a tad bit of a stressful week, and as always the BF knows how to keep me calm in a way like know one else does. How he does it, only God knows, but for that I'm thankful.

I'd love to see what you guys are lovin' this Wednesday! If you played along, let me know, so I can go check it out! :) Happy hump day!

My VERY 1st Vlog! :)

I saw a few of the blogs that I follow do this. This "dialect vlog". So I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do one myself.

Enjoy! :)

Read these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
•What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

•What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?

•What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

•What do you call gym shoes?

•What do you say to address a group of people?

•What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

•What do you call your grandparents?

•What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

•What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

•What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Five Q Friday, yo!

I'm so incredibly tired. One of my friend's, B, her car broke down, and she needed a ride to her friend's place who does her hair. This said friend, didn't get off work until 7 pm last night, then had a meeting at work until 8:30.

B got her hair cut AND colored, then we sat around and chatted for a while, so by the time we left and got back to B's house and ready for bed it was 2:15. Ugh, kill me now.

My alarm went off at 7 am. I'm already ready for bed!

The BF and I are about to head out and use one of my gift cards (Chili's!) that I got for Christmas to eat dinner, so I'm gonna make this a short and sweet post. :)

If you wanna play along with Five Question Friday, don't forget to go link up!

{one} What movie could you watch over and over again and not get tired of?
Well, my favorite movie in the whole entire universe is The Breakfast Club, so of course that's #1 on my list. :) Also, The Little Mermaid is pretty high up there too. That one is only fun when I watch with my little sister though because she knows the whole soundtrack just like me. ;)

{two} What's your biggest pet peeve right now?
Right now at this very moment? The fact that I'm so tired and my eyes are burning so bad that I'm wishing I had toothpicks to hold them open with.

OH! And, the fact that the BF wants to watch EVERY single football game that is televised this weekend. Why is that necessary? I know he loves football, but he isn't a fan of every single team?! Someone please explain this obsession to me, for the love of God!

{three} If you had to describe your best friend in five words or less, what would you say?
silly. kind-hearted. hilarious. stubborn. pretty. I love my best friend more than 5 words can say! ;)

{four} If you did not have to worry about money or go to school what would you do for a living?
Hands down, I'd be a pediatric surgeon. I didn't even have to think about that one.

{five} What is your one "splurge" item, that you will always buy, no matter the cost?
Toothpaste, I like the 3D whitening kind. :-D Oh, and tampons! TMI? Sorry! I'm not one of those girls that can run into the gas station and just buy the off-brand and use whatever is available, I need what I know works and is comfortable.

Happy 2011 - okay, so maybe it's a week late ;)

For NYE, the BF and I went out with some friends to a place called Fox Sports Grill. When the BF first told me about it, I wasn't too fond of the idea.

All I heard was "sports bar" and assumed he'd be glued to a TV watching football all night and I'd be bored. He said after he mentioned it, it was like he turned into the teacher on Charlie Brown and all I heard was "waaah, wahhhh, wahaaah".

God, does this man know me or what?!

Luckily, I was wrong! We ended up having a blast, and they fancied up the place quite nicely. Served a four course meal, and also served each couple a bottle of champagne.

I ended up taking way too many pictures from the night (which is one of my resolutions this year because I've been totally slacking), but below I've decided to share some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy!

Jessica, Liz & myself all dolled up

Seriously the best Crème Brulee I've ever had!

We had some good lookin' guys escorting us! ;)

Toasting to the new year!

Me and my honey ringing in the new year.

The whole crew, LOVE this pic!

Right after the ball dropped, feeling quite tipsy!

Midnight is coming, get your champagne ready for the toast!

My 3rd New Years kiss with this man, and it keeps getting better each year! ;)

Anxiety Stricken!

Let's just say that I had one of the worst panic attacks that I've had in a LOOONG time today at work.

This one seriously just came out of the middle of nowhere.

I was sitting at my desk, and I just started crying. I was hoping no one would come up to my desk and need anything because one thing I hate doing, is crying in front of people.

So here I am crying at my desk like my puppy dog died and wishing I could rip my own hair out.

The only thing I know to do is email my sister because she can relate and she is usually one of the only people who can even remotely calm me down a bit.

So, my fingers start flying at the keyboard.

Luckily, I had an appointment with my psychiatrist today anyway, and I let him know what happened and he replies with, "I guess we should do something about your anxiety, huh?"

Uhh, yeah that'd be nice considering I've been dealing with it for oh, I don't know going on 10 years or so and you doctors just keep switching me from anti-depressant to mood stabilizer to anti-depressant and so on, and nothing is seeming to work. So yes, let's do something!

I'm very thankful he's finally getting on top of this situation, but the medicine he gave me is making me feel zombie-ish. Yes, already. He had me take one while I was there at the office, and I am a little too calm.

I have too many OCD tendencies and things to do to be THIS calm.

Am I making sense?

We'll see though. I'm willing to try anything. At this point in my life, for as long as I've struggled with this, I won't say no to anything.

I'll be my doctor's guinea pig if he needs me to be in order to find something, anything that works!

My plan was to come and blog a nice, long post to help ease more anxiety, but I'm far too relaxed and tired to make this an interesting post.

On another note, I hope you guys had an awesome NYE, and I'll do a post about that this weekend. I got some great pictures that I'd love to share with you guys!
